How to Treat the Most Common Fourth of July Stains

Fourth of July festivities are right around the corner! From gathering for neighborhood cookouts to setting off fireworks, people across the country are getting ready to celebrate America’s birthday. The only thing that can ruin a good Fourth of July party is a nasty stain on your American flag shirt or your cutoff jean shorts. Thankfully, your favorite laundry service in Scottsdale, AZ is here to help! Continue reading to learn how you can get rid of some of the most common Independence Day stains:

  • Ketchup: It’s not a true Fourth of July party without some burgers and hot dogs. Unfortunately, those foods can be a little messy, especially if they’re covered with condiments like ketchup and mustard. If some ketchup falls off the bun and onto your clothes, mix a little detergent with cold water and blot the stain until it starts to disappear.
  • Beer: Nothing pairs better with a juicy burger than an ice-cold beer—that is, until you accidentally spill some of your beverage on your shirt. The good news is that beer is typically light-colored; the bad news is that it can still stain. Your best plan of action is to apply a mixture of cold water and detergent and let it sit for about five minutes. Repeat this process until the stain disappears.
  • Red wine: Do you prefer wine to beer? If so, you have to be extra careful while drinking, as wine stains much faster than a spilled beer! If you spill some red wine, sprinkle some salt on the stain and blot it lightly with a damp cloth. Assuming your garment can be laundered, toss it in the washing machine as soon as possible.
  • Colored cake frosting: What’s for dessert? If it’s a Fourth of July party, then hopefully a red, white and blue cake is being served! Cake frosting includes food coloring, which can be tricky to lift from any type of fabric. If you get some on your shirt, scrape away as much of it as you can as quickly as possible. Then, blot the stain with cold water and some laundry detergent. Just like with the red wine spill, toss the shirt in the washer as soon as you get home.
